The warm weather, budding flowers and Opening Day for the Red Sox are all signs that it’s time for Boston Public Schools’ April Vacation! April Vacation is Tuesday, April 16th (after the Patriot’s Day holiday) through Friday, April 19th. This time outside the classroom gives both kids and teachers the chance to enjoy the warm weather now that the winter has passed. If you haven’t already made plans, keep reading for some fun, active suggestions of how to keep your kids moving during their time away from school.
- The Mayor’s Cup Youth Street Hockey Tournament Mayor Menino invites kids to work up a sweat by playing in a hockey tournament! Games are scheduled from 9am to 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday, throughout the city. Make sure your child’s team is registered in advance to participate; see flyer for more information. Contact Mike Devlin at (617) 635-5206 x105 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have additional questions.
- BCYF All Girls Sports Festival The Boston Centers for Youth and Families invite girls aged 11 – 15 to participate in a sports festival from Tuesday through Friday (8:30am to 3:30pm). Girls can participate in FREE Sport and Fitness Clinics and Health and Wellness Workshops at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center (Roxbury Community College, 1350 Columbus Avenue). See flyer for details.
- GoKids Boston Teen Program GoKids invites all teens (aged 12-18) to enjoy a free April Vacation physical activity program from Tuesday through Friday. The program will run from 1pm to 4pm at UMass Boston (100 Morrissey Blvd, Boston MA 02125). Space is limited to 12 children! Contact Meghan at (617) 287-KIDS (5437) to register your child.
Of course, your child doesn’t need to be enrolled in a structured program to stay active during the break. Enjoy the spring weather by visiting a nearby playground, playing basketball at your favorite park, or renting bikes at one of the Hubway stations throughout the city. Not sure where to find a park or playground near you? Check out the Let’s Move Outside website for tools to help you find the outdoor resources Boston has to offer!
