It’s that time of the school year again – February vacation time! BPS students are out of school for the week next week, February 17 – 21, which also happens to be National Engineers Week. For parents who want a little help with last-minute vacation week planning, we’ve put together a sample plan for what to do as a family to stay active and learning every day. Boston makes it easy with lots of free programming taking place at museums and recreational centers throughout the week.
Monday: Make it a museum Monday at the MFA. Drop by between 10am and 4pm today or any day this week to sample four fun family-oriented art-making activities. Will you try sculpture, collage, pottery, or mobile making first?
Tuesday: Little engineers are invited to learn to make miniature boats from 10am – 12pm today at the MIT Museum. Get your ship in tip-top shape now so it will be ready to sail into the spring on the Charles River or Jamaica Pond.
Wednesday: Spend your Wednesday afternoon getting ready for summer with free activities at the BCYF Summer Warm-Up. Come down and warm up at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center for activities and summer program information sessions running from 1:30-3:30pm.
Thursday: The Museum of Science is staying open late tonight until 7pm along with every other day this week so that families have the chance to take their time exploring the museum. Learn a little bit about food and culture at the new “Our Global Kitchen” exhibit before heading home to enjoy a nutritious and delicious family dinner.
Friday: Form a family team and design a roller coaster at the Boston Children’s Museum as part of the “Engineering Everywhere” theme to this February vacation week’s workshops. Find even more fun events happening this week at the Children’s Museum here.
Saturday: Drop in and get out those last bits of energy at the Blackstone Community Center’s Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures Open Gym. The gym is open for free to all families from 10 – 11:30am.
The opportunities for fun-filled family adventure in Boston this February vacation week are endless. You’ve got an itinerary, so make it your own or just dive right in!
