Just when we thought Hubway could not get even better for Boston, the bike sharing system installed its first helmet vending machine as a move towards safer cycling that is accessible to everyone. HelmetHub gives Hubway riders the option to rent a helmet before borrowing a bike. The first HelmetHub machine is a trial run of a line of vending machines that could be installed all across the city next season, assuming riders like us agree that helmet sharing is a great idea.
Bostonians can now pick up a helmet at the Boylston and Mass Ave station for a $2 rental fee before exploring their city on two wheels. The vending machine also offers a cheap way to buy a helmet at only $20. All the helmets are cleaned and checked over for safety after they are returned so that we can ride carefree.
