While the Reed Family’s interests have taken them far distances recently, they enjoy activities in their own neighborhood year-round!
The Healthy Family Fun campaign caught up with them in early July, when Star and her mother were in town. Star’s sister, Jasmine, had already left for camp – while Star had just returned from Costa Rica! The two sisters are part of a leadership program – a 5-year commitment that shows them adventure, trains them to be camp counselors, and eventually takes them on a campus tour to introduce them to college life.
Closer to home, the Reeds keep moving with a number of different activities. The Healthy Family Fun campaign first met them at Body by Brandy in Roxbury, where the girls participate in the Fitness in the City program. Mom joins them and works out too – and on the day of their photo shoot (see photos below), “boot camp” had them doing drills, running the stairs, and on the treadmill. The 3 of them go to Body by Brandy twice a week and have made it a routine, thanks in part to the variety of fun activities and motivating energy of Brandy and her staff.
The girls also participate in the Tenacity program, where they play tennis and get academic training. While Jasmine’s favorite sport is tennis, Star particularly likes soccer (playing every position but goalie). As a family, Mrs. Reed and her daughters enjoy the Roxbury YMCA, where swimming is their favorite activity. And healthy activities aren’t limited to just staying active – the Reeds eat healthy, too! Star particularly likes her mother’s string beans, cabbage, and brown rice. She’s also slowly learning some cooking tips from her mother.
After the summer flurry of activities, Star will start 8th grade, and Jasmine will enter 10th grade. We wish them the best for the school year and thank the Reed Family for their support of the Healthy Family Fun campaign!
