Back-to-School Lunch Meal Prep

Do you have a picky eater? Is your school nut-free? Packing lunches can be a tough task, especially in the morning hustle and bustle of trying to get the kids ready for school. Check out these simple meal prep tips and ideas that will help take the stress out of your morning routine.

One of the best ways to meal prep is to make cold lunches ahead for the whole week! Over the weekend, start by prepping and bagging up or storing in plastic containers 5 sets of the following, for each day of the week:

  • Dry foods:
    • Crackers, pretzels, granola bars, popcorn, applesauce

Then, in the morning or evening, you or your kids can quickly look through the prepped foods, and fill up their lunch boxes and bags with what they want for each day. Another good idea that is a real time-saver is to use bento boxes to store ready-to-go lunches!

Also, remember these general tips for packing healthier lunches:

  • Pack water instead of juice, which is full of sugar
  • Get real fruit instead of fruit cups
  • Include leftovers from dinner
  • Use whole wheat bread or wraps, instead of white bread

Keep it simple, and do what you can to make your weekly schedule a little less crazy!
