The Dimock Center is our #HealthCenterSpotlight of the month! This Kohls-funded site offers cooking sessions in a mobile kitchen, weekly cooking demonstrations, grocery vouchers, and seasonal activities and giveaways.
Founded in 1862, the Dimock Center has been operating for the past 158 years! The main building is even a registered National Historic Landmark. The Dimock Center was the second health facility in the United States to be run by female doctors.
Located in on a nine-acre campus in Roxbury, the Center also offers a variety of health and behavioral services to the surrounding community. Medical services include adult and pediatric primary care, eye and dental care, women’s healthcare, and mental health services. There is also an on-site pharmacy.
Besides health care, the Dimock Center provides after-school programs, pre-school, and Head Start programs. The adult education initiative assists older people in job hunting and skill training. The health center is also equipped with an emergency shelter, detox center, and residential services. The Dimock Center assists 19,000 people annually with the comprehensive variety of services offered.
