The Happenings at Franklin Park

What do Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, and Roxbury all have in common? Franklin Park!

Spanning over 500 acres of city land, Franklin Park touches all three neighborhoods and as Boston’s largest park, it has a lot to offer families all year long. The Franklin Park Moves for Health initiative promotes active living to local community members by making their facilities available to all!

Here is a list of activities to do when you visit Franklin Park:

White Stadium & Courts: A large stadium near the Walnut Street entrance

  • Fall and Spring:
    • Watch local Boston Public Schools track and field events or football games
  • Summer:
    • Free sports clinics for youth ages 7-14 through Boston Centers for Youth and Families
    • Weekday evenings there is Skills and Drills, a basketball clinic for all ages

The Playstead: A large field located between the Franklin Park Zoo and White Stadium

  • Fall, Spring, and Summer:
    • Bring your own equipment or picnic to the baseball diamonds, picnic area or cricket pitch.

The Playhouse: A stage and open space near the Glen Road entrance

  • Summer:
    • Free community arts performances weekday evenings

Hiking Paths and Hills: Trails through the Franklin Park woods are marked with yellow paint

  • Winter:
    • Sledding and snowshoeing each Saturday, bring your own or rent a sled for $1.
  • Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall:
    • Follow the “Yellow Blaze Trail” through winding paths and rock cliffs

Bike Paths: Paved paths throughout the park

  • Spring, Summer, and Fall:
    • Most paved paths throughout Franklin Park are bike friendly, don’t forget your helmet

Playgrounds: Located around the edges of the park

  • Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall:
    • El Parquesito de Hermandad Playground: Walnut Ave by White Stadium and close to Egleston Square
    • Tiffany Moore Tot Lot: Seaver Street between Humboldt and Elm Hill Avenues
    • American Legion Highway Play Area: Across from Angell Street


  • Winter: Winter Snow Festival
  • Spring: Kite & Bike Festival
  • Fall: Fall Forest Festival

Families in Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, and Roxbury flock to Franklin Park at all times of the year to stay active and explore the great outdoors, right in their own backyard.
