Good news! Berkeley, California just became the first city in the country to place an extra tax on soda. Over three quarters of Berkeley residents supported adding an extra 1 cent tax per ounce of soda sold because they know that the more soda costs, the less people will drink. It’s not just Californians who are skipping the extra sugar and calories loaded into every sip of soda… The whole country is starting to choose water over soda! Aside from increasing awareness about just how much energy it would take to burn off the calories jam packed into each soda (see image above), water has become more and more popular as an alternative to soda as it has gotten cleaner, tastier, and more accessible since the 1980’s. And did you know that Boston’s tap water is some of the best? So if you are a regular soda drinker looking to make the switch to water, grab a reusable bottle and hit the tap.
